The Bale Man - undertaking 30 challenges in memory of of dear friend

Tue Jun 9th, 2026

Over the coming months, Lee Firmstone, better known as "The Bale Man", will undertake 30 unique challenges to honour the life and memory of his friend, Will Rogers, all in aid of Shropshire Rural Support.

The ambitious campaign has been inspired by what would have been Will's 30th birthday this year. To mark the milestone, Lee has pledged to complete 30 demanding challenges, ranging from long-distance walks to gruelling endurance runs.

What makes the challenge even more remarkable is that Lee will complete every event while carrying a hay bale strapped to his back, adding a significant physical and mental test to each challenge.

The initiative aims not only to celebrate Will's life but also to inspire others through perseverance, friendship, and determination. Throughout the campaign, supporters will be able to follow Lee's journey as he shares the stories behind each challenge, reflects on his memories of Will, and documents the highs and lows of the experience.

As the challenges progress, Lee hopes the community will rally behind him and help support the cause through donations and encouragement.

Supporters can follow Lee's progress over the coming weeks and months and contribute to the fundraising effort by visiting: gvwhl.com/XJVDU

With 30 challenges ahead and a hay bale on his back every step of the way, Lee's tribute promises to be an unforgettable journey of resilience, remembrance and friendship.

Testimonials

When I retired I looked around to see how I could help local farmers as they battled with the ups and downs of farming and running their family businesses. As a volunteer with Shropshire Rural Support, I feel I can really help farmers who need someone to talk to who understands their situation. I find it rewarding to give a bit back to a way of life that has served me well and I love.
