Milking and Mayhem at Open Farm Sunday

Tue Jun 9th, 2026

SRS were delighted to be in attendance at two large Open Farm Sunday events this weekend. The national campaign sees farmers across the country open their doors to the public to learn about food and farming.

At Harper Adams in Newport, Gareth support the event at the University's Future Farm where visitors could meet the animals, enjoy machinery displays and watch live demonstrations on the practicalities of running a farm.

Over at Home Farm Attingham, Jo together with volunteers Abbie and Georgie ran the "Scooby-Moo milking competition" with the farms' plastic cow - and raised £185 for the charity. At the event, visitors could learn about a huge range of farm machinery supplied by local farmers and dealers, feed the animals and enjoy Powells Pies and Winsbury Dairy Ice Cream.

There were thousands of interested visitors across the the two events, and we were delighted we could chat to lots of people about our work.

Testimonials

When I retired I looked around to see how I could help local farmers as they battled with the ups and downs of farming and running their family businesses. As a volunteer with Shropshire Rural Support, I feel I can really help farmers who need someone to talk to who understands their situation. I find it rewarding to give a bit back to a way of life that has served me well and I love.
